Man City Trounce Real Madrid 4-0
Manchester City have secured their place in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) finals against Inter Milan after beating Real Madrid 4-0 last night, Wednesday 17 May.
The Citizens displayed calm, skillful play and took full advantage of their home ground at Etihad Stadium in Manchester, England while constantly putting pressure on the La Liga giants from the start.
Come the 23rd minute, Bernardo Silva found the back of the net for the hosts, putting them first up on the scoreboard. He doubled that tally 14 minutes later to complete his brace, and to place City in a comfortable position for the rest of the first half.
Los Blancos may have a rich history of winning titles, but the evening belonged to Man City as they relentlessly sniffed around the visitors’ goal box in the second half; Manuel Akanji beat Belgian goalie Thibaut Courtois to make the score 3-0 at the 76th-minute mark.
Julian Alvarez provided one last insult for Real as the clock ticked a single minute over full-time, with a scoreboard reflecting 4-0.
City coach Pep Guardiola was ecstatic in the post-match interview: “Madrid, what a team, but we wanted to win … I didn’t feel tension and I had the feeling we were ready to give this performance.”
The 5-1 aggregate in the end put City through to the last game of the UCL season, with many favouring them to win the prestigious European football final, which will take place on 10 June at Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkiye.
